Emission traders defend HFC-23 projects, March 3

The international emission trading association (Ieta) has expressed support for HFC-23 emission reduction projects funded through the Kyoto protocol’s clean development mechanism (CDM). Responding to recent criticisms of CDM industrial gas emission reduction projects (EED 12/02/07), Ieta insists they in fact have been "hugely successful". HFC-23 projects have met the CDM’s primary objective of delivering cost-effective emission cuts, it says, and should not be attacked on the basis of "environmentally irrelevant considerations". Such attacks, it continues, are unfair, undermine investor confidence and contravene international agreements. See position paper.
