Part 2: Regional Action & Collaboration: Lessons from the Past – Outlooks for Future
This session features governments and experts to explain how lessons from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI)’s are being used to inform future sub-national activities, while addressing diverse communities and environmental justice issues. How is the regional collaborative working to ensure program benefits are shared with those who have traditionally born the brunt of climate change and air pollution. In addition, the panel will share the latest updates on the Transportation Climate Initiative (TCI), as the Northeast states look to build on the strengths of RGGI and address carbon emissions in the transportation sector. Is the post COVID world, an opportunity to crack the carbon transportation puzzle? Or should regulators back away until the economy recovers?

Jordan Stutt, Carbon Programs Director - Acadia Center
Vicki Arroyo, Executive Director, Georgetown Climate Center & Professor from Practice, Georgetown University Law Center
Part 3: Business Views on Carbon Pricing: What’s on the Horizon in North America?
North America’s carbon markets are arguably remaining resilient through COVID. In addition to the RGGI/TCI program, California-Quebec and Nova Scotia cap and trade systems are moving forward, prioritizing post-2020 design and the role of markets in achieving longer-term carbon neutral goals. Canada, federally, has launched its pan-Canadian carbon pricing program. Mexico has now launched its national pilot cap and trade system, set for full operationalization by 2022. In addition, we’re seeing a surge in voluntary corporate net-zero action and commitments. This panel of business experts will explore the current dynamic of North America’s compliance, pre-compliance and voluntary markets – and what opportunities and trends to watch over the coming decade.
