IETA has submitted its response to the consultation on the proposed updated Scope 2 Guidance under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. The submission reflects IETA’s global focus on supporting the implementation of well-designed, high-integrity market-based mechanisms that deliver verifiable and cost-efficient emissions reductions at scale.
While welcoming the GHG Protocol’s continued stakeholder engagement, IETA raises concerns that the proposed mandatory hourly matching and physical deliverability requirements could have unintended consequences for global clean energy investment and decarbonisation efforts, potentially leading to higher energy costs and fewer emissions reduced or removed.
