COP30 Summary Report: A Turning Point for Global Climate Cooperation

COP30 Summary Report: A Turning Point for Global Climate Cooperation

IETA’s COP30 Summary Report captures the key outcomes and dynamics of the UN climate conference in Belém, Brazil, highlighting a renewed, if challenging, commitment to multilateralism at a pivotal moment for global climate action.

While COP30 delivered fewer headline political breakthroughs, it marked meaningful progress on adaptation, finance, gender, and, notably, the strongest collective support yet for carbon markets.

The report details advances in Article 6 implementation following completion of the Paris Rulebook, the closure of the Clean Development Mechanism, and growing momentum behind domestic compliance markets and international cooperation.

It also reflects on the challenges that remain, from ambition gaps and finance constraints to debates over integrity and scalability, while showcasing IETA’s extensive engagement at COP30, including policy leadership, high-level dialogues, and convening the IETA-ICC Business Pavilion.
