  • INTRODUCTION

SCALING MARKET SOLUTIONS. POWERING PROGRESS & GROWTH

To build momentum on carbon markets as we get closer to COP30, IETA is organizing its Latin America Climate Summit (LACS 2025) between 26–28 August in São Paulo, Brazil, in collaboration with the Germany Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the World Bank’s Partnership for Market Implementation program and UNEP Regional Collaboration Centre for Latin America.

LACS 2025 is the premier gathering of carbon market practitioners, experts, and governments from across the Latin America and Caribbean region and is expected to bring together over 800 global delegates to discuss the importance of carbon pricing instruments for raising climate ambition and drive fair transition in the region considering the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape.

This year’s summit will explore key market developments, including the impacts of Voluntary Carbon Market integrity initiatives and the implementation of compliance instruments across the region. It aims also to shed light on global market developments such as CBAM, CORSIA, and IMO’s recent decision on carbon pricing and the impacts of such an evolving landscape for the region. With the adoption of Article 6 rules at COP29 in Baku, the Summit also aims to explore the engagement of countries in the region with Article 6 and the opportunity of scaling up climate finance through international markets leading up to COP30 in Belem.

Among other topics, discussions will delve into the role of Natural Climate Solutions (NCS), waste and energy related projects in driving high-integrity climate action, competitiveness issues, jurisdictional programs, the importance of technological developments for ensuring high-integrity and promoting interoperability between markets in the region. Finally, the Summit will promote dialogues among governments, private sector actors, civil society, and local and traditional communities—emphasizing their essential role in shaping inclusive, credible, and impactful carbon market pathways for sustainable development in the region.

Overall, LACS 2025 will offer an unmatched space to discuss carbon pricing trends, deepen market expertise, and engage with policymakers, business leaders and key stakeholders who are shaping the future of carbon markets Latin America and the Caribbean, driving impactful and large-scale climate action across the region. We wait you in São Paulo to navigate emerging opportunities, drive meaningful action, and contribute to the global journey toward net-zero!
