On 7 May 2026, IETA officially launched the Net Zero Hub at the “International Dialogue: Article 6 in Practice - Perspectives from Key Actors and Countries” in São Paulo 🇧🇷🌍
The event brought together government representatives, multilateral institutions, and private sector stakeholders to examine the operational state of Article 6 cooperative mechanisms and discuss the conditions required to unlock investment and mobilise financing at scale towards mitigation through carbon market activity.
The programme featured three moderated panels covering government perspectives, investor and buyer approaches, and the Brazilian project pipeline.
The Net Zero Hub is intended to be a collaborative initiative. IETA extends its thanks to ComBio for partnering on this first event and welcomes future partners interested in supporting upcoming Net Zero Hub gatherings.
The opening panel, “Article 6 in Practice: Governments’ Perspectives on Mechanisms, Rules, and Implications,” featured Pedro Venzon (IETA), Beatriz Soares (Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Brazil), Vicki Yong (Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore), David Newell (Swedish Energy Agency), Harikumar Gadde (World Bank / Partnership for Market Implementation), and Caroline Prolo (Legal Advisor to the LDCs in the UNFCCC Negotiations).
Discussions explored how countries are approaching Article 6 implementation, emerging governance frameworks, and the implications of evolving rules for international cooperation.
The second panel, moderated by Elisa Guida (IETA), focused on “Buyers, Investors and Key Actors’ Perspectives on Cooperative Approaches, Areas of Interest, and Critical Issues.” Panelists included Maria Belen Losada (Itaú), Ken Yabe (Mitsui), Cássio Bernardino (Equinor), and Roberto Strumpf (Rabobank).
Speakers shared how Article 6 developments are influencing investment and procurement strategies, while also highlighting practical examples of projects currently attracting interest from buyers and investors.
The final session, “The Brazilian Supply Side: Project Developers and Companies in Pitch Mode,” featured Rafael Borgheresi (Future Climate), Paulo Skaf (ComBio), and Isabela Morbach (CCS Brasil).
The discussion highlighted mitigation opportunities with potential eligibility under Article 6 and provided insights into Brazil’s developing project pipeline. Speakers also reflected on the practical challenges, beyond regulatory uncertainty, that continue to affect scale-up efforts, while noting opportunities for progress in the short to medium term.
