IETA response to European Commission announcement on ETS2

IETA response to European Commission announcement on ETS2

letter has been made public from Wopke Hoekstra addressed to the Czech Minister for Environment, addressing Member State concerns for ETS2. The news was also published by the Commission here.

The Commission’s proposals to enhance the predictability of ETS2 are a welcome step toward ensuring the successful launch of the new system while addressing Member States’ concerns. IETA urges a timely launch of ETS2 and cautions that any modifications to the system must not jeopardize or postpone its start date.

IETA welcomes the Commission’s intention to propose early ETS2 auctions - a clear signal that the voice of the business community has been heard. This step would help reduce price uncertainty and support long-term hedging strategies by companies.

Now, we call for clarity on next steps, including the swift publication of the proposal to implement the changes in a transparent manner and in close consultation with stakeholders.
