Unlocking Finance, Building Trust - Latin America Summit 2025 report

Unlocking Finance, Building Trust - Latin America Summit 2025 report

IETA has published the Latin America Climate Summit (LACS) 2025 Report, capturing the key discussions and outcomes from the region’s premier carbon markets gathering, held in São Paulo from 26 -28 August 2025.

With nearly 600 delegates from 38 countries, the Summit highlighted that scaling climate action in Latin America and the Caribbean depends on two essentials:

  • Unlocking finance
  • Building trust through integrity and inclusion

Key takeaways from the report include:

  1. Indigenous People, local communities, and forests must remain central to climate action.
  2. The region now accounts for nearly 20% of the world’s operational carbon pricing instruments and almost a quarter of global credit issuances and retirements.
  3. Interoperable and harmonised carbon pricing systems are essential to scaling investment and ambition on the road to COP30.

The report also provides insights on Brazil’s ETS development, Article 6 pathways, climate finance opportunities, and the role of regional cooperation.
