In an op-ed titled “Bridging the Carbon Gap: The UK-EU Link the World Needs” published by Euractiv, our President and CEO, Dirk Forrister, highlights the importance of the EU-UK ETS linkage announcement for carbon markets, climate ambition, and economic opportunity.

Fragmented carbon markets mean higher costs, reduced climate ambition, and missed chances for collaboration and linking the EU and UK ETS is a crucial step forward to creating a more integrated and effective carbon pricing system.

IETA calls for swift negotiations and mutual CBAM exemptions before January 2026, when the EU’s CBAM enters full force. A united, functional carbon market is essential for achieving global climate goals and fostering sustainable growth.
